Twenty-eight States were represent- ed, most of the delegations being m full, some overflowing, but a few States were not fully represented. The Convention was called to or- der by Dr. D. B. Sturgeon, of To- ledo, who nominated Capt. R. F. Trevellick, of Detroit, as temporary chairman. Messrs. O. J. Smith, of Terre Haute, and F. J. Scott, of To- ledo, were appointed secretaries. J. W. The Texas Express Company has made good the lo*s of ten thousand dollars sustained by the Paris Ex- change Hank through the robbing of the Express Agent at that place re- cently. Pi The Sails JUius. DE N I SON. THURSDAY FED. 2$, 1878. Ex-Senator Wade is reported at daily growing weaker. There are but faint hopes of his recovery. It will not be good for the Tele- gram man to visit Sherman soon. To speak of the Register as the Den- ison Register is the greatest insult that could be given Jack Martin, and he is a bulldog on wheels when you him started. Our advice to the Telegram is to apologize without delay. The Loudon Times, in its leading editorial article, approves in princi- ple Lord Derby's statement in the house of lords Monday evening, but concludes that the government must review the final terms of peace very carefully, and if some of the rumored conditions prove to be really demand- ed, they ought to be met by the strongest protest. ! V Daily Tlcius. _ DENINON. SATURDAY MARCH i. 1878. Medioal. Prospectus. HOW TO TELL Peace for Cuba. A Havana letter, of February 23d, received in Washington, says the insurgent chiefs have submitted to the terms offered by the Spanish government, of which fact there is no longer any doubt, and the resto- ration ot peace on that island may be regarded an accomplished fact. The 35th of February was designa- ted as the date on which the insur- gents shall lay down their arms, and on the twenty-seventh, peace was to be proclaimed by the goyerninent. General M. Gonzales, of the Span- ish army, has just arrived in New York from Havana. He comes as a commissioner to treat with the Cuban junta on terms of peace. The Captured Express Robber.
