¥ ui ■ DIOIO Just Received A Car of Corrugated Wire Both Painted and Galvanized A. W. SPRINGER & CO. Our Washington Letter Washington, D. C., Aug. 17. Mr. Bryan in his speech of ac- ceptance, dealt the Republican Party some terrific blows, on some very vulnerable spots. Mr. Bryan charges Secretary Taft with attempting to amend the Republican Platform, which is an admission that the trusts and not the people wrote it. It is well known, that a motion was made in the Republican National Con- vention to provide for the phy- sical valuation of railroads as a guide by which the amount of stocks and bonds should be issued by the roads. It is well known that the Republican National con- vention voted down this prop- osition. A great hardship on the people of this country results from the fact that when a rail- road is organized and its stock is sold, the money for that stock goes into the pockets of the organ- izer and promoters as pure graft and then the crowd of grafters that organize...

The Star man had the pleasure of attending Sunday's session of the Stonewall County Singing- Convention held at Shinery Lake and must say it was a great suc- cess both in point of attendance and interest. Q e Q * Texas is rich enough to give ev- ery child an education. The man who obiects to paying his just amount of school taxes is but sowing the wind and will reap the whirlwind. Without universal education a democracy cannot live. Public schools are not maintained thru a spirit of philanthropy. In a dem- ocracy every citizen should have equal advantages for the develop- ment of individual talents. The spirit of the government of this country demands that the highest standard of intelligence possible of accomplishment shall prevail, so that the best possible govern- ment shall prevail. Ignorance and tyranny go hand in hand. Just in that pro- portion that ignorance is dispell- ed is the power of tyranny weak- ed. Hence the public school sys- tem. If the administration of Gover- nor Campbell accomplishes no other ...
