Duncan, Bell, and Wingrove, J.P.'s) Samueol aMosely, jun., was charged at the instigation of the Shire Council, with stealing timber from off a public road. The Surveyor gave e\vidence to the tlelct that he had caught the defendant in the act of cutting up the wood, and that when' he asked him by what authority lhe was doing this, he replied tlht he didn't think he was doing any harm. Fined 20s with 2s Gd costs anld Is damages. James and Bridget Butler were charged with illegally impounding four cows the property of Michael Butler. The evidence of the complainant, who is. 84 years old, and is painfully deaf, was that on the ovening of the 2Sth November his cows were in his yards, and that during the night they were taken away, bht the night being so clarl: Ihe could not tell Iby whom.
