WILL HIELP MAN ON THE LAND. IMPORTATION OF WIRE NETTING. The State Government, quite inde pendent of the Commonwealth Go-' 'vernment, has decided to import wire netting from soft currency countries. This was stated by the Premier (Mr. Hollway) last week. He said that ar rangements were now being made to obtain at least 30,000 rolls as -an ini tial order, .This material, said Mr. Hollway, would be allotted to Government de partments such as the Soldier Settle ment Commission, Lands Department, and State Rivers and Water Supply Commission. These departments were now drawing heavily on the limited local supplies. The importation for Government needs would thus leave the cheaper local material for the man on. the land. Undoubtedly this would a?great boon to primary.producers the fight. against rabbits. WARANGA-NORTH-EASTERN ASSOCIATION BROADFORD WINS . PREMIERSHIP. A big attendance witnessed the grand final match between Thornton Acheron Valley and Broadford, played at Euroa last Saturday. The weather was fine and the gate takings amounted to £275. A good game was wit nfessed, with fairly even scoring until a few seconds before the ;final bell. Broadford kicked the ball that gave them victory by 3 points, the ball was in flight when the bell sounded for the conclusion of the premiership match of 1949, in the W.N.E. As sociation. Broadford have won the premiership. We congratu late them. Thornton Acheron Valley lost the coveted honor, but we must congratulate that combination on their ,very fine perforniance ; also bn their 'ob taining the position of being .run* ners up for the premiership in their first year of entry in the W,N.E. This disease is spread 'by the probable transmission of a virus which is in' the mouth and nose; and the period of incubation is from seven to fourteen days. TiHE PLAY. BY "ROVER." The bounce of the ball at the commencement of play was se cured by Broadford, Williamson (TAV) relieved and forwarded to team mate G. Long, who did likewise to R. Rennie and a goal was obtained by TAV. Soon af terwards TAV secured a point. Broadford replied with a goal (their opening score). TAV bag ged two quick goals through the agency of Deas and Symonds. Broadford retarded their oppon ent's progress and added two goals with the help of H. Nesbitt and Green. Scores at the first in terval were :Thornton 3-4, Broad ford 3-1. In the second quarter the ball was forwarded to Searle (B) who quickly snapped a goal. TAV replied through Symonds (after some dashing handball by TAV). Broadford attacked, and Searle registered full points for his team. FAREWELL TO PARISH PRIEST. * On Sunday last Rev..Fr. Sowersby visited Alexandra to say farewell to parishioners of St. Mary's.; Church: Father Sowersby had been in charge of 'the Alexandra and Yea parish for about ten years. Alexandra has now been proclaimed a parish on its own, and Fr. Sowersby has been appoint ed to Yea, with Father Beare talking over the Alexandra charge. Father Sowersby extended thanks to all who had helped.him during his parochial duties at Alexandra, also towards the welfare of the church. He appealed for the same 'co-opera tion and assistance for Father Beare. After Mass, Father Sowersby was presented with a set of pipes and a tobacco pouch by the parishioners. Mr. Jas.
