MORE POWERFUL. LONDON, August 26. [Newspaper Article] — The Courier-Mail — 28 August 1933

MORE POWERFUL. LONDON, August 26. The Tokio correspondent of The Times describes the Emperor's review of the naval manoeuvres, and says it was the strongest fleet that has ever saluted a Japanese ruler. The ton- nage totalled 847,766, compared with   703,295 in 1930, while the aeroplanes numbered 180, compared with 72 three years ago. "The fleet," he adds, "can carry many more aeroplanes. A strik- ing feature is the increased strength in first-class cruisers, which, longer in range and stronger in striking power, are replacing the predominantly light cruiser fleet of 1927."

TOWN PLANNING. BRISBANE'S NEED[?] [Newspaper Article] — The Courier-Mail — 28 August 1933

TOWN PLANNING. BRISBANE'S NEED. Brisbane is in great need of town planning, states the eleventh annual report of the Town Planning Associa- tion of Queensland, to be presented at the annual meeting to be held on August 31. The report says that a casual glance around Brisbane reveals ruined homes, as, for instance, along North Quay, in New Farm, and South Brisbane, and their place is being taken by poorly equipped factory and shipping areas. To be effective, town planning requires much study. The event of the year was the com- mission given to a member of the as- sociation (Mr. R. A. M'Innis) to plan the city of Mackay, the report adds, Town planning must be controlled by legislation or ordinance.
