Port Phillip. THE SELF-CONDEMNED MURDERER. — Thomas Purton, the aged man, who some time ago gave himself up, as an unconvicted murderer of some thirty years standing, underwent another examina- tion on the 31st July, which merely amounted to a recapitulation of what has already been stated in our journal respecting him. He was remanded for one week, and a strong suspicion exists that the greater portion of what the prisoner has stated is, in colonial parlance, " gammon," though apparently not made with a view to save his " bacon." —P. P. Patriot. IMPORTANT ENGLISH INTELLIGENCE. — Captain Geo. Clinch, of the Margaret, which arrived here yesterday morning, from Circular Head, reports having seen English papers recently received (per prison ship) by Mr. Gibson, (manager of the Cir- cular Head Company) wherein it was stated that the Oregon Question had been amicably settled, that the Duke of Wellington had retired from public life, and was succeeded by Prince Albert as Com- mander-in-Ch...
