A writer in the French Journal, ' L 1 Agriculture Madera e, ,f contributes the following on the subject of strange ob jects swallowed by cows : The largest objects are not the most dangerous. Symptoms of an accident of this kind are irregularities iin digestion at f...

COWRA HOSPITAL [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 25 May 1900

COWRA HOSPITAL. It can be scarcely credited an Institu- j tion such as the Cowra Hospital, that boasts of a credit balance of £500 should not have surgical instruments at the dis posal of the surgeons attending in cases of accidents etc., but has to send to Melbourne to obtain the necessary tools. Such, however, is evidently the truth, as was showh in the case of Mr. Williath Bassett's son. The lad had received sfivftve iiiiuries to his arm and shoulder. necessitating the removal of a splintered piece 'of bone. No instruments were available, so the operation had to be postponed indefinitely until their arrival from Melbourne. The question is natur ally asked, ' Who is to blame ?'

. ? ? ? ? ? — — — j Resumption of Large Estates for Settlement. Last Wednesday, 16th inst, a deputation consisting of Messrs. Rose, Waddell, Chapman, Carroll, Kidd, Byrne. Richards, Clarke, and Dight, Ms.P., waited on the Premier to request him to bring in a Bill early next Session em powering the Government to resume large landed estates at their fair value, near towns and railways, and cut up into farms, and lease to the people. Mr. Rose pointed out the enonnous areas of land that were locked up in the hands of comparatively a few people. He showed by striking figures the good similar legis lation had done in the colonies of New Zealand. Queensland, and South Austra lia. Mr. Waddell, who followed him, said that large estates had been the curse of eyery country, and were the curse of this. The Government had now the chance to remove this evil, and that without putting the ordina.y tax-payer to one penny of cost, or doing an injus tice to anyone. The rents of the land when leased ou...
