TEa holidays being over, our legislators will resume their Parliamentary duties this day. They will go back fresh to their work; some with new ideas; others with renewed health; and one or two, perhaps, who lasve.bee less enuccessful on the Turf than on the flBoor of the Assembly, will return to their seats in i pe?nsive mood, sadder and wiser ~anm. Several importatsut mesures tht'have been introdeced-durlng the Session will comb on for discussioqrimmediately. Amongst eth?tlbusi ness, resolutious will be submitted by .Mr. YsLzWrN in the Upper House, Isaving in view the re-construction of that Chsmnber' on an elective basis. We hasirsslwaysbeen of opinion that there is no necessity whatever for having two Houses of Legisaiture in this infant Colony. It mightnotbeexpedient, however, to alter the exeisting arrangement in this respect, which, if its advantage is not very evident at present, may yet prove benefieia-l in the course of time when the Colony shall become more populus. But if...

BRISBANE. [Newspaper Article] — Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 11 June 1861

BRISBANE. We extradt ithe following from the Guardian: Considerable interest was created yesterday by the discovery, amongst the metal just laid in Queen and EdwiArd streets, of a piece of crystallized quartz, in which some fine gpld was embedded. The specimen, which also contained a piece of copper, was left at Mc Plavelle's shop for exhibition. Viewed through a micrwsorope it presents a very beautiful appear ance, and if similar rock is to be found in any quantity in the same place {facisg Dr. HIobbs's pritati house); it would well pay for the expense of crushing. The Rev. Thomas Jones was ordained as Priest of the Anglican Church, on Sunday week last, by the Bishop of Brisbane, assisted by the Revs. B. Glennie, J. Bliss, and R. Creyke. A very :inres. sive charge was delivered by his lordship on the occasion. L~EusE PunMKrsINc,-Mr. Robert Jamieson, of Bulimba, has succeeded in producing fom :his fard a pumpkin weighing156 lbs. THE RACE BALL. [Newspaper Article] — Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 11 June 1861

THE RACE BALL. - Tan wind.up of tlhe North Australian Meeting-the Annual Race Ball-was, upon the whole, the most sunc -cessful affair of the kind that ias yet come off in the colony. The Hall of the School of rate, which was. neused as a ball-room, is not only tghe largest room in Quenousland, but affords neatly as muehepace for dancing a.s .any other building, that could be used for that purpose, in the whole of Australia. The Grat Exhi bition building in Melbourne ia longer, but does not -afobrd thesame amount of clear spacn. The only draw bhack upon the present ocoaion was that, owing to the Hall being in an?atin shed state, the floor go: wet with rain before the roof could be overed-inby meant of the temporary expedients of tarpaulins and glates of gal vanised corrugated iron, and was-not so smooth for dancing an ould have beern wished. H.
