Deaths by Burning. - An exceedingly- painful occurrence took placo at Callan Park on Mondajr'af£erndon, resulting in the death' of a°fine little girl of six vears, the daughter of Mr. Geo. Sutton, collector for Messrs. Booth and Co. Itappears that a lot of children gathered some rubbish at the rear of Upward Terrace, and, setting . fire to it began playing- round about ttic flames, with the result that the unfortunate ohild's clothes became ignited ,and before the blaze could be extinguished she was burnt so severely that Bhe succumbed, after suffering great agony, m the course ot thirty-six hours. . Balmain Progress Committee. The usual fortnightly mecting'of the Com mittee was held at Mr. Halfhight's saleroom,' Mullens-street, on Thursday last, 18th instant, Mr. Thomas -Cox in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and 'con- firmed. A letter was read from Mr, Garrard, M.L.A., in reply to a communication anent the Post and Telegraph Offices. After some desultory conversation, it was moved by Mr. Halfnight, that a suggestion should be' made to the council that the same system should be adopted in regard to the dry earth system in Balmain', as carried out by Leichhardt and Asbficld Councils, that is, the contractor of the dry earth system should . collect the rates due for their work direct, aud not be; paid by the council. An Interpleader Case. At the Small Debts Court, Newtown, Morris v. Matthews, an interpleader case of some interest to tradespeople generally, was heard before' Mr. - O'Malley duke, S.M. B. Morris and Co. had obtained ?judgment against W. J. Titterton, of Bur wood, and nad issued execution. Mr. S. Matthews claimed ? the defendants 'goods under Bill. of Side, dated 6th Ootober, 1883, but it appeared that- a subsequent Bill of Sale had been executed in 18th June, 1884, and the plaintiffs contended that as this last Bill of Sale had not been executed 14 days before their summonses had been served, their judgment had prior claim. The ease was settled by the claimant with drawing his claim and allowing the execu tion of the Court to take efiect against the defendent with costs.
