THE STORM OF THURSDAY NIGHT DREADFUL ACCIDENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Monitor and Commercial Advertiser — 26 October 1838

THE STORM OF THURSDAY NIGHT. DREADFUL ACCIDENTS. From the MORNING CHRONICLE, June 2. A terrific storm occured on Thursday evening which was attended with serious injury to several persons, and also to property in various parts of the metropolis ; the eastern part appears, however, to have sustained the heaviest shocks. The lightning and thunder were accompanied by heavy showers of rain, which overflowed the streets. About half- past seven o'clock many sucessive claps of thunder were heard, and the lightning was awfully vivid. The atmosphere was for some time darkened, and a black cloud hung over the metropolis. About twenty minutes before eight o'clock, the electric fluid struck the house. No. 8. Anthony-street, St. George's in the East. The house inquestion is occu- pied by Mrs. Goodfellow, a widow lady, and her family, consisting of two daughters and a son. A young gentleman, Mr. Henry Arundel. who had long been acquainted with Miss Eliza Goodfellow, and was paying his addrrsses t...
