TaE first match of the season between the above clubs was played at Yea on Saturday. .Morris, who won the toss from Lightfoot, decided to take. the wickets, and was succesful in puttinig together 79 runs before the fall of the last wicket, Downie playing an ex ceptionally brilliant innings, making: 56 before lie was disposed of. White head's Creek responded with 34, Doxey 12 heing their highest scorer. Morris and Downie divided the blowling honors. The fielding on both sides was only medium. Murrindindi and Woodburn Schools   Picnic. (From our own correspondent.) THE annual picnic of the Murrindindi and Woodburn Schools was held in Mr. Edward Dunn's paddock at Murrindindi on Thursday, 26th lnt. A strong committee of ladies and gentlemen had been working hard for several weeks to ensure the success of the affair, and the result was that the picnic was one of the best ever held in the district. The weather was all that could be desired, and ample provision   was made for the comfort and enjoy- ment of the scholars and visitors.. Swings were provided and well patronised during the whole day, while cricket, football, and other like games were greatly indulged in. A varied programme of races; lasting the whole day, was gone through, and in al- most every instance caused keen com- petition, the finish in many of the events being most exciting. The stakes are larger, a better class of horses will be competing, and there is every prospect of its being the most successful meeting yet held since the consti tution of the Yea IRacing Club. Mr. W. Purcell, the lion Secretary, the Stewards, and the Ground Cotmmittee have done all in their power to make things in general as comnfortable as possible. A large attendance may be lsoked for, and many old friends. who neither bet, gamble, nor drink whisky, as many popularly suppose who do not go to races, will meet to exchange mutual e periences in the present and to.-lk of the good old times in the past.
