W(ISCELLANEOUB, A LEssON ON SLEEPING IN CIHURCII. We clip the following from the St. John's Morning News. If we might be allowed to judge, we would'say'it is "not a bad one:"- " A few years since an aged clergyman in thewestern part of the province, speaking of the.solemnity attached to the ministerial of fice, said that, during the whole terin' of forty' or fifty years that hehad officiated therein his gravity had never but once been disturbedi in the pulpit,. On one occasion he noticed a man directly before him, over the railing of the gallery, with something in his hand,j which he soon discovered to be a huge quid of tobaldo, just taken from his mouth. Direct; ly below sat a man asleep, with a mouth wide open. The man in the gallery was intensely engaged in raising and lowering his hand, taking an exact observation, till at last, having got it just right, he let fall the quid, and it went plump irif.the mouthl of the sleeper below, The wholescene was so indiscribably ludicrous th...

F.ARII LABOURERS. IT is sitlt some degree of reluctance we enter upon the subject we have assigned to ourselves a to discuss, in the article headed as above. Clear as our views may be expressed upon it, they are , liable, we are persuaded, to be misrepresented. I Prejudice has gone abroad on the topic-the bhonor of a party is involved itn the afhfir; and swhere these thitngs happen, how diffictult it is to convince others, and impossible to escape being misunderstood likewise. - The subject, how ever, being of importance, and intimately con nected with-the welfare of the district, inconve nience and a risk of misrepresontatibnandiabuse must stand on one side, or be submitted to, if standing in the way of more important matters. It.has been for some ttie a subject of cotm pla;int with the settlers, inot only of our oivndis trict, but likewise of most of the districts iin the Colony, ithe scarcity of'shepherds, stockmen, .and agricultural labourers.
