GENERAL SU331IRY. The Queen held a Court at Buckinghanm Palace on the 28th February. The Princess of Wales is in an interesting situation. The Prince of Wales will be present at the opening of the Dublin Exhibition. Mr. Benjamin Guinness is to be a baronet. Sir Fredrick Bruce has been appointed Minister at Washington, in the place of Lord Lyons, who has retired in consequence - of ill health. The failurP of the great Birmingham Bank " of Attwood and Co.; involving hundreds of poor working men in ruin, has excited a very painful.sensation. The bank had a repu-. tation for resources and stability ahnot equal to that of the Bank;of Englan itdsel, . and yet it appears that the whole affair has been long hopelesly insolvent, in consequen: e of the criminally-reckless abstraction an~ waste of funds, on private speculations of hi : own, by on o of the partners, dir. ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE "FREE PRESS." [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 18 May 1865

ORIGINAL CORRIESPONDE\NC E. TO THIE EDITOR OF TIIE L P'iE PIiESS." SSm,--As a burgess of Kilmor' I feel ag grieved at the reckless exlendiiure of the public mioney in u- !les ? law ,roceeding . The Council as a body seem to be ignorntu of all formalties which the law prescrib s. They seem defiantly to cowuider the non written law of their own im:ginations to the written law of the !und. hence when the written law is produced they are astonished, but nevertheless atdhere to their non-written law, and, because the presiding magistrates administer the writteu law, the partizans of these Councillors accusee the nuagi.trates of partiality,,and threaten to get up memorials to get them cashiered. If the administ-ators ofjustice could be to iAnucnced by thrtat:i there would' be an end ofju:tice. These re marks are called forth by the case of the Rate : Collector versus Trainor, for rates. This ease was tried before the Kilmore Bench onia former occasion and dismissed. It will no doubt be br...
