A MOUNTAIN CLIMB. Quamby Bluff. [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 10 December 1910

A MÓÜNTAIN CLIMB. Quamby Bluff. There are folk who dispise moun- tain climbing, exploring g)ig-s, and a ly strenuous endeavour to rea;h remote scen;s of b; mty and granduer. They have a s ony gaze f ir the fern gully, ciscade, w iterfall forest view, or mountain grandeur. . . . i And there N a tone of self-s itisfac tion in their onfessáon of lack of interest in such scenery; an enthus- iastic votary of Nature aim ist evcites their contempt But such persons don't understand their own limitat- ions. They forget that the eye sees just what the mind permits it to see; that appreciation of Nature's beauties distinguishes man from the beast; that the enjoyment of natural scenery increases with the advance of education and general culture; tint the host ot Nature's elect is au ever increasing one. But there are many persons who would climb mountain and explore ravines if they had the freeodm and the means. Such claim our sympathy; and the practical way to show it is for those who climb an...

Öan Australia Adopt a Better Policy than the present? YES. m, :,1^BY GOLDEN WATTLE.] ^ ,,' ' The main "contention . against Freetrade is that under that system local industries are unable to compete and new industries are'not;likely to be established. Deloraine Council and the Friendly Societies. [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 17 December 1910

Deloraine Council and the Friendly Societies. The following letter was received at last Council meeting from the Secretary of the Friendly Societies "Athletic Clubs. To his Worship the Warden and Councillors: Dear Sirs, Refering to your letter of Octl2. we note you state that the Frie.i Hy Societies sports are classed as a racing club, and the charge for the use of the recreation ground would have been 15 per cent of the gute money. This would mean to us about £?$ 5s in comparison wifh £1 5s as charged by you for the best part of eight years. We think it very unfair and stron- gly protest against the high tañff and also being classed as a racing club. We have no totalisator, booth or anything that we can make m 3ney on, and our s.) orb hut year showed us a debit balance of about £4. My committee have nothing to gain by holding the sports they merely have the sports so as to pro- vide a days outing for the public of Deloraine and always used to admit from 50 to 300 children free to t...
