GERARD, THE AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY, IN INDIA. What a really first-class rider is capable j of doing in the saddle can be gleaned from the performances of Gerard, a native of Australia, who has been in India for the hist sixteen years, but who intends shortly to return and make his home amongst us. Besides the achievments hereunder recorder, Gerard has secured the last two Viceroy Cups, and from recent accounts to hand thinks that he has more than an ordinary show of placing the third to his credit, thus effecting the 'hat trick.' Taking his winning mounts and places into consideration at the October Karachi races hehas handed down a record at a single meeting never before approached in the land of his adoption — viz., seven wjns and four seconds out of eleven jfttaipte^.
