THE OBJECT OP RECITATION. , ^- - ¦ r 'lb', ¦ " ' • An Bs*ay ITrltteii by Ml»» Mmrj Chamben,«na Re»i Before the Beaver Goonty Teacher»> Instltnte. There is an object in every act; * motive underlying all thoughts and deeds; else would our life be aimless, without purpose or design. This is not true of the business of the world only, nor yet of its charities, but also of its education. Teaching alms to train, instruct and develop the various faculties and powers of the taught, to make him as perfect as his nature admits, to cause him to fill worthily the place God designed for him. The union of these is of the highest importance in this age of show and sham, to every intelligent moral agent. Manners involve morality as much as religion or any other act of the human mind. The motive, as well as the act must be right, therefore a person should not be accepted in society, because, of external good manners; if a whited sepulcher, seething with corruption, they should be valued and treated as such. It must be remembered that there is a strong intimacy between moral character and the belief of truth; let it be granted that it is no matter what a man's views are, and it must be granted also, that in a moral view, it is no matter what he does. If a man's belief has no influence on his practice, then that practice is destitute of moral quality ; so that, while it is all important to give diligent attenti...

SOUSE AND FARM. improve Your Farms and Farming. Every agriculturist, however large or gmali the domain which he has to till, orj>f which he has the oversight, ou^ht to resolve every year to make 3 decided advance in farming and in the value and appearance of his ) fsm. The idea of merely digging a living out of the ground" without any regard to the manner ?in which it is done, or the state in which the poil is left after each successive i crop, or the real and market value of tbe (rronnd, is beneath anTlntelliccnt being. During the summer, when wool opened at seventy-five cents per pound, we urged upon our farmers to sell, as it was probabl^the top of the market ; but, deluded by the experience of the former season, they held tor, higher prices ; instead of an advance, prices have been receding all summer, and are now lower than any time during the year. No. 1 pulled is quoted at forty to forty-five cents, and American full blood Merino at fifty-seven to sixty cents per pou...
