THE RANDALL, COUNTY NEWS. MARCH 12. tOOB. y TEXAS PRODUCTS INCREASING, Turpentine and Rosin are Becoming Important Factors in States' Manufacturing Ranks. Texas, by increasing its output of turpentine from 74,350 gallons in'1907 to 200.650 gallons last year, and the production of rosin from 7,609 barrels in 1907 to 28, (561 barrels in 1908 has shown a most unusual advance in turpen tining and a healthy condition of her naval stores industry. The state's progress in hand ling the yellow pine forests is evidenced by the fact that a greater percentage of turpentine is produced by improved meth ods, that is, by the cup and gut ter, cup and apron, or similar systems, than in any other state. Last year 49 per cent of the tur pentine was produced by im proved methods and the yield was 43.5 casks per crop, higher than any of the other states ex cepting Louisiana where there was also a high percentage pro duced by improved methods and a yield of 44.7 casks per crop. A new railroad will bo built out of Big Springs, the money for which is already guaranteed, and a model town established in West Texas by Dave, and W. P. Soash of Waterloo, Iowa. Fur thermore these Iowans have purchased the famous Slaughter ranch of 200,000 acres, north of Big Springs, and expect to set tie it in the next two years. In furthering this model town i)lan and cutting un the big ranch into farms, the Soash brothers will run big homescck- or excursions thorough Fort Worth to Big Springs twice each month.
