The currency in circulation in the United States has increased during the last year an average of over Í 20,000,000 a month. If per capita means good times the arrival of prosperity should be an nounced. "Farming by Irrigation" is the name of a new pamphlet...

On tmt eíoO lav path Some of the best argument for a protective tariff made thu fa in' congress, are the speeches made by a few of the democrats against it. Instead ot trying to mystify the public. President McKinley tries to keep it informed of his inten tions, and sooa as a thing has been determined upon it Is made public. This hat been the rule ' ever since he first member of President McKinley" cabinet was selected. That it is a good rule cannot be doubted. The following is the tariff rate on mining products in the new McKinley bill: Lead bearing ores, I cent per pound on the lead contained. Lead duties are to be estimated at port of entry, bonds given in double the amount and the duties liquidated in the end after government assay. Lead dross and lead, 2 ceats per pound; sheet, pipe, shot, etc., a' cents; metallic minerals, crude, including monazite sand, 20 per cent; mi...

THE CHIEFTAIN. BY CHIIFUIN PUBLISHING CO. W. 8. WILLIAMS, Editor. TEHM8 OK SCBS(;nilTION. tfcttrlctlj inadyar.ct. One year 3 50 II months 1.25 Dennis Flynn will not be gov ernor ol Oklahoma. Protection and prosperity go together and increased revenue follows a a natural sequence. McKinley's first month brought a surplus. The rush among im ' porters caused it, but is a surplus just the same. Philadelphia is trying to bring order out ol chaos, and made 1 750 changes in the names of its streets during the past year. And Mr. Grant, we mean Fred Grant, the son of General U. S. Grant, will not accept the position of assistant secretary of war. Alaska's yield of gold this year is estimated at Sio.ooo.ooo, which is considerably more than the big territory cost the United States. The tariff discussion in congress is only another illustration of the truism: Tint a genuine demo crat never forgets an error and very rarely leains a new fact. To havo prosperity produce something: Dig it out of th...
