The Farm and Garden. Bee Pasturage. Those who would improve their bee pasturage are advised to plant maple, locust, chestnut, and linden trees, and to encourage others to do so. In setting ut ornamental trees, it is surely worthy one's attention to have regard to their honey-producing power 'and to select, with this end in view, thoso blooming at different times, rather than all of one kind, or those blooming at the seme time. I should like to know the comparative value of these trees for producing honey, ' and ! also which varieties of those men ' tioned are the best. For timber; the yellow locust is the most valuable. It is extensively planted on the western prairies, where it grows . Tery rapidly, and is chiefly used for rail road sleepers. In Southern Ohio bees in some years gather a large portion of their surplus honey from the locust Their industry during the yield from the 'locust is surprising. 'Where the tree grows in great numbers they almost aban don all other sources of ...

" Using his knife for a spade, a small hole by the trunk of a tree soon revealed enough of the condition of the roots, as affected by the manner of planting, to ,' i verify or disprove the opinion formed in his own mind 4n ordinary cases, but in many he made thorough examin...

The Farm and Garden. Beech Hedges. Can you inform tne whethor the beech, planted as a hedge, will succeed in' this region ; and i? so, the proper season for planting? Would it be the best plan to bow th' seeds where the hedge is desired to grow, or in a bed prepared for the pur vpose, .and afterwards transplanting; 0" the latter, how old should the plants be before setting them out, and how far apart should they be put ? Also, where the nuts are to be obtained, and the quantity necessary for making a he,dge of about 50 rods? 'I have seen such hedges in Europe, but do not recollect ever having , .-met with, -them here.- It appears to me ; they would ba well adapted for enclos ing a garden ; the foliage is very pretty, and as the leaves remain on long after they are withered, such a hedge would be a good screen from the winds.
