PROGRESS. 77:e Life of the Land is Established in Rigliteousness. HONOLULU, NOT. 20, 1S93. THE PASSING SHOW. Editor Holomca: Tho cliques represented by the Advertiser and the Star do not wish to believe that there is any troth in a telegram referring to tho restoration of the Hawaiian Monarchy which was published in a New Zealand paper. It is very natural that they should not, it would not be to their interests to do so; but, because they do not wish to, is no reason why their press should abuse and vilify those who do. "Whatever may bo President Cleveland's course of procedure, whether he submits the question to Congress or not, whether tho American Constitution gives him tho power to remove or dis placo a revolutionary government or not, ovon after ho has recog nized it merely as a matter of form or for purely business pur poses, is of no concern to the present government. This gov ernment holds a similar position in tho eyes of tho United States Government, as does the right ful ...

meaning men joined their ranks. "When the veil fell and the sel6sh filibusters stood in all their shameful nakedness of greed and self-interest the decont Amer icans -who from childhood have been imbued with the great and glorions principles of American democracy turned away in dis .gust and annexation in Hawaii nei became a stinking corpse. But, yet, believing in the honesty of the men who are the leaders of the reform party, the men to whom he freely has given his support and help whenever they beckoned at him, Mr. Plemer stood forward at the meeting in Wailuku and said: "Gentlemen. I am sorrv that I am not prepared to-night to make much of a speech, but to judge from the remarks of the two last speukers it seems that the rumors in regard todisfrnnch ising the Hawaiiaus are true. I think that the natives are entitled to vote on the question of annexation and to say if they desire to have their country annexed or not. It is their country and theirs alone. As far as I. mn concerned ...

CURIOUS FINDS OX THE LINE. In addition to the broken bot tles, old newspapers, and empty fruit baskets -which are the most common of articles dropped from passing trains, the platelayers and others at work on the track sometimes come across 6nds of greater value. Not long since a valuable dia mond brooch was found on a North London line by a man employed in picking up scraps of paper, and which it transpired hud fallen from the dress of a young lady, who had been look ing from the carriage window at the house of a friend as the train passed by. Some years ago a medical gentleman, taking a walk near Hunstanton, was snprised to see a piece of paper come Hying out of the window of a third-class carriage of a passing express, and which, when it settled at his feet, he discovered to be a five pound note. Continuing his ramble, ho on his return, called at the rail way station; and learned that inquiry had already been made for the missing piece of paper, which belonged to a clerk who, sta...

& hYtmtnrr eh PROGRESS. The Life of the Land is Established in Righteousness. HONOLULU. NOV. 22, 1S93. TOPICS OF THE DAY. Our extremely economical gov ernment which according to the Advertiser and the Star, has been eoualled in Hawaii is at present wasting the money of the tax-payers by senumg gov ernment officials - on junketing vrr.i;Hnns of a most useless -nnfnm around the country. The Postmaster-General makes a big showing by writing lengthy and tedious reports about his pleasure trips to tho other Islands, whilo the people in Honolulu are being put to groat inconvenience, and annoyance by tho new rule of the Vni Office that the mails ior tne foreign steamers close two hours i.nfnm the sailiuc of the vessels. PROGRESS. The Life of the Land is Esiablishca in Righteousness. HONOLULU, NOV. 23, 1S93. TOPICS OF THE DAY. One of tho most absurd of all the absurd rumors which lies yet been circulated by the annexa tionists appeared in last night's Star, and was reproduced to-day by the fossilized morning organ. According to the rumor, Her -r0i'ncfv- refnsod to "b auujU4ji.j restored" except a guarantee for protection be given to Her by tho United States. Tho Advertiser comes out quito seriously and asserts that such action of tue Queen would be quite natural and reasonable, as Her Hawaiian adherents are diminishing in numbers by every day. Ye wonder 'sometimes if the man or men who writo for tho Advertiser really know what they are writing about, Or if they simply pub lic!, flioir outraereous lies itou r " cj for tho purpose of blinding their readers to tho true state of our affairs and inspire them with hopes which will never be realiz ed.
