The Mountains of Mexio Plateau Is a Wonderlul Freak of Nature Part of It a Desert Drier Than the Sahara -Two Ancient Cities, (Speclal Correspondenee.) Hl ride through Texas to the Mexican border is monotonous and dir ty; from Ciudad Por firio Diaz to Torreon the train climbs con tinually, up, up, up un til it reaches the Mexi t can plateau. This pla teau is a wonderful freak of nature. If you ima gine a level plain thirty to fifty miles wide, bordered on both sides by mountains like those in Colorado, and so long from nurth to south that it lakes an express train twenty four hours to go the distance, you :get some faint conception of its immensity. For the first twelve hours of this part of the trip the plateau is a desert, miles deep in dust, without a spear of grass or a tree or a single living creature in sight, save only the omnipresent cactus. Even'the birds avoid it. .No rain has fallen in the ten years the conductor of my train had been running here, and the wind al ways blow...

Two of his fraternity "brothers" sat a" either side as a bodyguard to her gray hairs and as a bureau of informa tion. They were happier than they would have been with the prettiest girl they knew. She smiled with motherly pride when she picked him out of the squad 'of red sweatered "huskies" which at length trotted out on the field. She wiped away a tear when a Columbia man fell across the line for a touch down. Then she surprised her bodyguard by muttering under her breath: "Hold 'em hard, fcllows!" "Twist their necks!" "Push!
