i in i ii miu i i hi in i miii i Sri ay o City Free Prose MAYS CITY. t I i KAN3. TRADE IN REPTILES. The" trade in snake skins does not at first thought suggest itself as one re quiring large capital or very compli cated organization, at least in this country. But in' the far east things are different, says the Boston Herald. The Java Reptile Skin Company has been incorporated in the island of that name, with a capital of $40,000. Branches will be established in a num ber of places throughout the island, where live snakes will be purchased from native hunters. Great stress is placed upon buying the reptiles alive, Bince the skin is much more valuable if the snake is skinned while yet alive. Live snakes 12 to 18 feet in length bring good prices; while dead snakes are a drug in the market. The woman who wears with pride a daintily bound snake skin card case will probably not tve a thought to the fact that the ma terial was stripped from a living snake. Ever since the episode in Eden so...

&2aya City Free Rrooa HAYS CITY. X I I KAN 3. All Europe Is studying the increase of its naval armaments. Italy is the .ast. Of every one dollar earned in Italy 20 cents already goes to the tax fatherer. Yet It is proposed there to spend $200,000,000 in bringing the Italian fleet up to the safet7 point Austria has done it by laying down four Dreadnoughts. The Austrian fleet ts to-day stronger than the Italian. Italy must at all hazards build a big ger fleet, as Italy did from 20 to 30 years ago, when naval defeat by Aus tria in 1S68 had shown the peril to the Italian coasts from a strong Austrian fleet. Austria builds its ships as part of the German plan for a great fleet, controlled from Berlin, strong enough to seize the seas, defeat the English fleet and thea make short work of the Monroe, doctrine. But for German na val expansion this rush to naval arma ments by all lands would never have come, says the Philadelphia Press. No one armed the more because of the English fleet. ...
