Jd., * items. —Hon. Jacob Thompson has tamed up in Cuba, having recently arrived there from France. Havana letter writers state that he will probably make the Island his home, and that ho will soon be joined by his family. The President refused hini permission to return to the United States. A monetary crisis has occurred in fiavara. Several banks have suspen- ded, and business generally has been brought to a stand still. The Herald's Washington corres- pondence gives a little inside history of the late mission of Sherman and Campbell to Mexico- The expedition, according to Mexican advices, has pre* ven a positive injury to Juarez, and a windfall to Ortega. The two envoys were at odds with one another from the start. Each claimed to rank the other, and each had separate instruct tiocs. This led to stormy discussion between them, in which personal allu- sions by no means complimentary were made, and it all culminated in an open breach at Matamoras, when they parted company, returning...
