The London correspondent of the New York Commercial Advertiser, on whose statements we are disposed to place much reliance, says, in a recent letter: " Business generally all orer the king- dom, never was 80 steady and flourishing as at present Every man wanting work can find it Pauperism is diminishing rapidly. In the London Union, on Christ- mas day, 1850, there were thirty thousand less in door and out door poor, than on Christmas dsy, 1849; and in the manu- facturing districts there has been a scarce- ly less wonderful diminution—a change that has been gradually brought about by the absence of political agitation, and the working of our free trade system. There is every reason to believe, that encouraged by the impunity with which those outrages have hitherto peen too often committed, they will irake fearful! inroad-; into the white settlements du- ring the approaching summer. The War department, we are informed,; is employing all the resources at its com- mand to avert these crlamities, but those resources are entirely disproportioned to the magnitude of the service.
