Qie §ei|tii^el VOLUME 12, NO. 4 PUBLISHED WEEKLY SACHSE, TEXAS (214) 530-1100 MARCH 6, 1987 .Political Signs Signal Campaign Starts For Sachse Mayor and City Council You know the race for Mayor and City Council can't be too far away when those signs start ap- pearing in the yards and on the vacant lots all over town. Many of you are acquainted with all the candidates, and if you aren't, you probably recognize the names. But in case you're new to the city, or need remind- ing, here are some sketches about the Council contenders. In- troductions to Pat Boyd, running for mayor, and Larry Holden, in the race for re-election to that of- fice, were carried in the news- paper last week. Running for the three Council positions are Gale Davis, Wayne Snipes, James Becker, Michael Murphy, Chris Jacobsen, and Danny Holley. The name Davis in our city brings to mind Gale's father, Ben, who was a member of the first City Council, served as mayor and was known for his many civic contributions until...

Sm ,'1, ' i'i . — " • fefcff The Sentinel <o Corner o o D \Y WILLIAM L. DENAM, D.O. Living to 65: Then and Now in figures calculated for 1985 by Metropolitan Life, 79 percent of Americans can expect to live to the age of 65. For women, the chances are about 84 percent while for men, the chances are roughly 73 percent. At the turn of the century, the picture was con- siderably more grim. Then, only 41 percent of Americans were ex- pected to reach 65. The figure for women was about 43 percent while the figure for men was only 39 percent. Improvements in health care and living conditions are considered to be the main reasons for the increase. A related study shows that boys hold a slight edge over girls when it comes to the sex ratio at birth. In 1983, the last year for which final figures are available, there were 1,052 boys born for every 1,000 girls. Hot Tubs and Fertility Men with fertility problems are advised to stay away from hot tubs. A recent study showed that fertile men w...
