WHEEL ALIGNMENT. An Important Factor. [Newspaper Article] — Port Lincoln Times — 5 August 1927

WHEEL ALIGNMENT. iry An Important Faster. In equipping a car with front wheels, the engineer has to consider setting the wheels at three different angles so as to eliminate excessive friction; need If-ss streets on bearings, difficult Bteer i;ig,aud excessive tyre we'ar. The first of these angles is called camber or pitch, meaning a slight ' outward leaning at the top of each wheel. This is done to place the wheels nearly to perpendicular pos ition, relative to the crown o£ the road, and to convert some of the radial Ihrast into an inward end thrust But the principal reason- for this' camber is.to get the point of contact be 1 fween the tyre and. the road as nearly ss possible in line with the king pin. lhat makes the wheels easier to steer. r.- If you will stand a wheel on the floor with the top leaning over sttght ly, and give the wheel a push.you will note that its tendency is to run in a circle. DRIVING SIGNALS. Wrongly Employed. [Newspaper Article] — Port Lincoln Times — 5 August 1927

DRIVING SIGNALS. Wrongly Employed. Some drivers seem either to be1 in total Ignorance of driving signals, or ,jat any rate, to have a distinct objection to their use. Many others seem to he conversant with one signal only, that of holding out the right arm hoi^zontally; this they use on all oc casions when they Intend to change direction or stop; The Automobile Association points ?out that, this practice is dangerous to the close observer of driving signals. On seeing the driver in front extend liia arm . as described the following motorist naturally concludes that he is about to turn to the right. Consequent ly he pulls to the near side. Imagine ills consternation when the driver a head instead of carrying out his in tention, as signalled, turns to the left, Great care should be taken in em ploying driving signals or accidents may easily accur, particularly when the driver omits to signal until he is actually about to chane direction or stop. Signals, to be of any use must he given...
