LAW REPORT. SUPREME COURT, JUNE 20. Loane v. Robinson. The Solicitor-General shewed cause against a rule which had been obtained by the Attorney-General, on a former day, for setting aside the verdict in this cause, and entering a nonsuit. The declaration had contained merely common counts for work and labour; and the plaintiff had given in evidence at the trial a written agreement between him and defendant, regulating the plantiff's performance of services for the defendant, times of payment for a salary, &c. The Attorney-General had obtained the rule on the ground that this agreement had been improperly received in evidence. Judgment deferred On Wednesday, His Honor the CHIEF JUSTICE being indisposed, the Court did not sit. THURSDAY, JUNE 23. Bethune and Grant v. Hervel, Campbell, and another. This was a suit in equity. SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 July 1825

SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE. Sailed, on Sunday last, the schooner Sally, Captain Lovett, on a whaling cruise for D'Entrecasteaux channel. Our Readers will pardon us, if, on   account of certain passages in the co- lumns of our contemporary journalist of last week, we find it necessary, in. alluding to them, to trespass for a few minutes on their patience. This, however; is a favour which he must not expect us soon again to confer upon him ; and the Pub- lic will, on that account, the more.readily forgive us. He commences his attack by charging us, in large capitals, with the crime of forgery. Having done so in a prominent part of his Paper, he concludes the charge with saying, "com-     ment , would be a waste of words." Comment however he has added, in that grand and imposing way, which has, of late, been so important a prop to his columns-another letter to the LIEU-   TENANT GOVERNOR ; in which letter we entirely agree w...

THE HOBART TOWN GAZETTE. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 July 1825

THE HOBART TOWN GAZETTE. Assize of Bread for the ensuing Week, The Loaf of Two Pounds -8d. Sitting Magistrate for the ensuing Week,) Rev. R. KNOPWOOD, Esquire.         TO CORRESPONDENTS.   We regret extremely that want of room obliges us to deprive the Public of many very valuable Communications ;   and, among others, the second and third Letters of " A COLONIST" to His Honor the LIEUTENANT GO- VERNOR, which we have thankfully received.     The "'Biographical Sketch," we think, had better, for the present, be with- held from the Public eye. * * The conflict we have had to do jus- tice to our advertising Friends, and to give an adequate, portion of News to our Subscribers in general, has again placed us in a distressing dilemma. The long Proclamations from Sydney, and other accumulated matter being got rid of, our Paper will, we trust, assume a more attractive and useful appearance...

SUPREME COURT. FRIDAY, JULY 1. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 July 1825

SUPREME COURT. FRIDAY, JULY 1.           The Attorney General presented two   Informations against Mr. Andrew Bent,   for the publication of certain libels upon the Government, in the late Government Newspaper. The Learned Gentleman said, that he presented them thus early in order that the defendant might be ar- raigned, and plead without delay, and thus have more time for the preparation of his defence. — His Honor the Chief Justice delivered judgment in the case of Patrick Hunt, who had been brpught up on a Habeas Corpus, having been in gaol on a charge of assisting in receiving stolen cattle. - His Honor said, that as the principal party implicated, to whom this man was a servant, had been admitted to bail, he, should hail Hunt ; but His Honor wished it to be understood that he should requiie very strong grounds to be laid, in future, before he would exercise the power of that Court in- adm...

SUPREME COURT. FRIDAY, JULY 8. Mason v. Kermode. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 16 July 1825

SUPREME COURT. FRIDAY, JULY 8.     Mason y. Kermode. Mr. Dawes opened the plead- ings. The Attorney-General stated the plaintiff's case. It was an ac- tion brought to recover loss sus- tained, by the plaintiff, upon a large quantity of Irish pork, bought hy him from the defendant, but which turned out to be bad and unwholesome.       Mr. Cartwright, for the defen- dant, insisted that the quality of the pork, not having been war- ranted, nor known to the defen- dant, when he sold it, to be bad, the loss ought to rest with the plaintiff, and that the plaintiff had Kept the pork a long and unreason- able time before disposing of it, or giving any notice to the defendant. Verdict for the plaintiff, subject to question arising upon the ab- sence of warranty. THE JURY QUESTION. TUESDAY, JULY 12.
