Kettering THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE. [Newspaper Article] — Huon and Derwent Times — 14 December 1933

Kettering THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE. The winter's weeks of hard work at reherasals and at home put in by the Kettering Repertory Society cul minated in a performance oni Satur day, 9th December, of 'The Mummy and the Mumps,' and the members have added another success to their dramatic triumph. It certainly equalled, though , hardly surpassed, their excellent ^-. (representation of 'The House of a Thousand Thrills' a year ago. The Selby Hall was full to over flowing with a most appreciative audience, whose enthusiasm reached a pitch- most remarkable in . critical Kettering. The play,' which was a; farce with tlie usual nonsensical plot-j lost noth ing in brightness at the hands of local amateurs. The part of Wil liam Laidlaw 'was cleverly played with excellent , effect - by Rennie Smith, who had the happy knack of getting all his. jokes and wise cracks over in a most natural and amusing manner. As :'Racker,' a page boy, Bill Procter wasTone 'of the hits of the evening, and1 caused consi...

Municipal Assess ments A QUESTION OF RESPONSI BILITY Mr S. Mcintosh wrote to the Huon Municipal Council stating that Cr. J. S. Griggs' remark published in the 'Huon Times' to the effect that he (Mr Mcintosh) was not paying rates on a; property valued, at £700 was a reflection on his ? honesty and asked for proof of same. - On reference being made to the roll the Warden said' it appeared that' the house belonging to S. Mcintosh had' .not been, included in the roll since 1920. His property was described as 'land and1 orchard.' It was valued at £72 in 1920, was raised to £80 in 1921, and' dropped e gain to £72 theT following year, ..at which figure it . remained till 1927.
