The Elmore Murder. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 14 July 1888

The Elmore Murder.   The Elmore murder has had considerable light thrown upon it. The police have discovered that the deceased was a farm labourer named John Duggan, and that he was of miserly habits. It seems that he had several hundreds of pounds in his possession including a deposit receipt for £670. The receipt was subsequently found in a Sand- hurst street, so that the murderer has been traced so far. The murder must have been commited about the 10th of June. The men arrested at Malmsbury and Maryboro- ugh are now believed to be guiltless. The whole of the new information gathered is     clearly admitted to be due to the full pub- licity given in the press, a point worth re- membering by the over-reticent police officers. The murdered man generally lived at Axedale, but travelled over the country. He never spent any money when he could advoid it, and when not working he gener- ally lived on charity.

Ham and Bacon Factory. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 28 July 1888

ainm and Baconl Factory. :--·---o-i Pig raising and fattening is becoming a leading industry in South Gippsland, and thercfore it behoves Warragul. as the leading town in the district; to take the industry in hand, and place it on ha firm commercial basis,. Ham andrbacon factories in other pig districts - are successful and flourishing institutions, and a factory established on commercial lines in a district so 'ad. mirably suited for pig rearing as South Gippsland, ought not only be successful' from the start, bht should give ai great and lasting impetus to the bacon industry throughout the district. The eo-operative principle is noe 'in great favor amongst farmers, and there is-no reason why it should not be success= ful when applied to a ham and bacon factory. It is quite as simple to allow each man his share of. the proceeds ac cording to quantity of bacon, ham, of even pork sent by. him, as it is to allot each shareholder his shares according to quantity of. milk" suppl;ied to ...
