BULLA BULLA.. •iton. OUR OWN CORRESPONDEWT]. The weather has been very changeable this week, and consequently the farmers are not progressing with their harvest as well as they would like to. Our cricketers met the Digger's Rest. team on Saturday, on the ground of the former over whom they scored a victory. Bulla went first to the wickets and succeeded in knocking up 120 befere the last wicket fell. A. P. )Daniel 30, A. Clark 25, and A. M'Dougall 15, batted well. Digger's Rest then went in and made 75. Bourne 18, Alison 16,. and J. Murphy 14, were the principal scorers. There is a big demand for kerosene tins in Bulla at the present time as the "boys" anticipate some heavy worik at Christmas, no less than seven or eight douples being~ meltioned as starters for Ithe matrimonial stAkes. Let us hope the:' tinkettlers" will have better luck thati last time.. -

LOST. What ! lost your temper, did yvo say ? Well, dear, I wouldn't mind it It isn't such a dreadful loss- Pray do' not try to find it. 'Twas not the gentlest, sweetest one, As all can well renmembher Who have endured its every whim From New Year's till December. It drove the dimples all away, And wrinkled up your forlehead. And changed a pretty, smiling face To one--well, simply horrid. It put to flight the cheery words, The laughter, and the singing; And clouds upon a shining sky It would persist in bringing. And it is gone ! Then do, my dear, Make It your best ende.avour To quickly find a better one, And lose it-never, never !

BEER ' DUTY ACT.. Publicans should be careful of the 'above. Two cases of breaches of this act. were dealt :with. at the Footscrav Police Court on Thursday. The prose cution in each case was conducted by Mr" "Ferguson, of the department of Trade and Customs, and Mr James Hll defended the first case. Inspector Reidy, of the branch, of the Customs, stated that on the 1 th iult., he called at the Spottiswoode Hotel, Spottiswoode, and in the .cellar found two empty hogsheads and two on tap. The stamps on these were still intact. The licensee of the hotel, on' being questioned as to the omission of their- being defaced, replied that he thought the time to do so was when the hogsheads were being returned to the brewery.
