THE FIRE AT MR. CAVANAGH's STORE, WANGARATTA. The inquest into the cause of this fire was resumed before Mr Butler, the Coroner, and a jury of twelve, at the courthouse, on Fri- day. Mr Norton appeared to watch the case on behalf of Mr Cavanagh's trustees, and Mr Ely on the part of the Northern and Im- perial Fire Insurance companies. The case was continued by Mr Ely calling a witness named Thomas Kellow, who said-I am a labourer living at Wangaratta. Remember the night of the 18th of March. Was near Cavanagh's store about half-past 8 on that night. I was under Mr Spearing's veran- dah. Saw nothing of the fire until half- past 2 in the morning. Knew nothing about the cause of the fire. Mr Ely said he had been misinstructed in calling this witness. Charles Wright deposed-I am a sawyer living at Wangaratta. Remember the night of the 18th of March. Knew the premises of Mr Cavanagh, which were burned down. Saw the premises about 10 minutes past 12. My attention was called to a flaring l...
