MURDER AT NIVE DOWNS. Information has been received of a fracas hav- ing occurred on Monday, the 15th inst., on the above Station, whereby the head stockman, Edward Noonan, lost his life. The particulars of the unfortunate occurrence so far as they have come to hand are as follows:—Mr. Brodie, superintendent of Nive Downs, engaged a mar ried man named Laurie as assistant stockman, and his wife to cook for the deceased. On the day indicated Noonan brought a bottle of grog to the hut and gave some of the contents to Mrs. Laurie, which caused an altercation to take place between him and her husband; the latter after a while transferred his anger to his wife, and getting her into the bed-room, bolted the door and commenced beating her, which so exasperated the deceased—who at the time was probably excited from liquor—that seizing an axe he broke open the bed-room door; where upon, Laurie, seizing his gun, shot him through the neck; he died almost immediately.
