ALEXANDRA P. & A. ASSOCIATION [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 28 February 1908

ALEXANDRA P. & A. ASSOCIATION The prize of £5 offered by the above for the best five acres of fodder crop, has been awarded to Mr. H. Hill, of Thornton. Messrs. J. O'Rourke and T. Robb were next. both with good crops, and very little to choose between them. The other competitors were Messrs. W. Turner, R. Rennio, O. Payne and F. Wight man, all of whom have nice crops, but not equal to the three already men tioned. The society-was fortunate in obtain ing Mr. R. Williams, of this town, as judge. This gentleman has had con siderable experience in this class of work in the Lancefield and other districts, and in making his awards suggests that a sample of millet and maize be submitted for analysis that their relative value for feeding pur poses be ascertained. Many farmers, he said, class millet with broom corn, an altogether inferior plant.

Our Railway. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 28 February 1908

Our Railway. The Yea "Chronicle" says:-"We notice from the STAKmARD that the surveyors of the Alexandra railway ex tension have arrived and " pitched camp." Our neighbors are naturally anxious as to the fate of the new railway now that the Trawool scheme has been taken up by the Government, but still it is possible for the survey of the railway to be made -and the construction of the line aban doned. The whole thing as yet is an uncertainty, but we wish our Alexandra friends luck." [Thanks. 'We can assure our contemporary that promise has been made that the line will be proceeded with so soon as Mr. Muntz's survey, which, by the way was accepted by the authori ties, has been verified. This will not take a great while. Our contemporary is evidently ignorant of the fact that thousands of pounds have been and are still being expended in opening up the Rubicon forest by Messrs. Clark, Kidd and Co., and which is stated to contain the best timber in the States. - The de oartment is aware ...

ALEXANDRA DISTRICT CRICKET' ASSOCIATION. ALEXANDRA v. JOHNSON'S CREEK. The above teams played on the show ground on Saturday afternoon last, in the presence of a good number of spec tators. The gameresulted unsatisfactorily to both sides, the captain .of the Alex andre club claiming the match, and the skipper of the Creek claiming a draw. The time for commencing the competition. matches was fixed at 2 o'clock by the delegates, and 7 o'olock as the tinio for' drawing stumps. Unfortunately, these conditions were not strictly ilheored to. on onn or two occasions, with the result that Saturday's match ended in dissatis factiori. The captain of the Creek team was given the correct time from soerral watches, and when he lost the ninth wicket a few seconds' after 7 o'clock, according to the watches scntioned, he called his batsmen in ats time was up so. as to claim the Imatch as a draw. how. ever, the umlpires consider that there was. two minutes to go, anmd Alexandra are claiicing the mat...
