Letters to the Editor [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 20 March 1964

Letters to the Editor One Election Comp laint To the Editors I write this letter in connection with the recent student council elec ¬ tions Approximately four weeks ago , nominations for student council ekctions took place . At that time I was informed by representative Bill Eves that I had been nominated for council , and that I would be notified officially by Vice-president Mike Yaggy within a short time . However , this official notification did not come and representative Eves said that he would look into it . Approximately two weeks after nominations Eves again notified me , telling me that Yaggy had spoken to me concerning elections and that I had accepted my nomination . This is not true since I was not contacted by Yaggy in reference to elections . A short time after this , another development arose Eves notified me that my name was not on the ballot and he asked if I cared to petition for nomination At this time I became aggravated by the entire situation and I wrote a stat...

EDITORIAL [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 20 March 1964

EDITORIAL Council Nominations Inhibit Interest By now , last week s Student Council elections are but a dim memory in the minds of most F and M students . The controversy created by the paper s slate of candidates has been forgotten , and both students and Council members are preparing for yet another year of innocent ignorance and apathy . The REPORTER , however , will endeavor io present to the student body , in addition to its regular coverage of Council s meetings , analyses and interpretations of major Council debates and decisions , and will attempt to print a box-score of voting . We firmly believe that these steps will do much to improve communications between Council and the student body . With such increased communications , we further feel that when elections come up next spring the electorate will have at its disposal a full and accurate account of the progress made by Council and the individual accomplishments and stands of its members . But in spite of these benefits w...
