The Atlantic Cable, it would seem, is a failure, though hopes of success aro still entertained. The Grcut Eastern returned to Sheerness on tho 11th inst. Gapt. Napier reports as follows : Tho cable parted on Wednesday, tho 2d inst., nt noon, in 1,950 fathoms of water. It was then grappled for thrco different 1,200, 900, and CO Tho grappling hook broke, but tho cable rctnaiuod un broken. The Great Eastern returned to England for- stronger and better, grap pling gear. Mr. Varley, one of the obctricians, writes most encouragingly regarding tho cablo, und says : "W found no difficulty in grappling tho ca ble, evon in tho greatest depth of water.
