NORTHERN TRIBUNE SATURDAY, AUGUST 21, 1S73. CONCESJnUGTAIIS A2fD rATlT.IT.TLS. There are UiousancU of men In all the older settled portions of the country who are working by the month on farms, or perhaps by labor, enterprise and econo my have been enabled to work a farm on shares, or under a money rent. A few of these men, after years of labor, make a purchase of a farm, paying apart down, the balance remaining under mort gage. Then follows years of labor.' Much of the "hard-earned money goe3 in the way of interest. By the time the debt is paid and the farmer has a clear title to the farm he is an old man. This Is not an exceptional . or a supposititious case. They can . be counted by thousands. It is to the3c men that we would speak concerning the advantages Of coming to a new country. There are thousands of acres pf fanning lands in this section of the state that are waiting for just such men to come and Improve them. These lands are the equal of any in the state. NORTHERN TRIBUNE 8ATURDAY, AUGUST 23, 1875. . MORE ABOUT THOSE ADVANTAGES; Again we would call the attentidn of the citizens of Cheboygan t5 the import ance of taking some action definite in its nature looking toward the opening of navigation through our inland lakes. This matter is one of great importance and should not be, permitted to slumber until it is in that state of completion which will allow the passage of light draught vessel 3 to say the least. Comparatively speaking the expense is trifling. If this town expects to have large resources in the fature it must take advantage of them now and evermore. Nothing should be permitted to pass unnoticed without being handled ifi that progressive and energetic manner which make all things, even tho?e of themselves of insignifi cant value, redound to the improvement of the place. No passing advantage should ever be lost, for once lost it can never be regained. All the time that is now lost in completing the work neces sary to make th...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE. SATURDAY, SFPTEMBER 4, 1875. 'TIU: INLAND LAKE IMPROVEMENTS). Just at the present time the Tribune 'conceives that the improvement of the navigation of the inland lakes and rivers Is the most important matter for the citizens of Cheboygan to labor to attain. True, the railroad is a vory important matter, one to which the Tribune has time and again called the attention of its readers, and one which it will at all times advocate, and about which' it will give the latest intelligence. But at the present time there seems to be very little prospect that much, if anything, will be done at its extension this season. But in regard to the improvement of our inland navigation the case is different . Thi3 U Something upon which we have to de pend upon no outside corporation. It is a matter which is of vital importance to Cheboygan and this wnole northern section of country. It is a matter that we are not compelled to watch and wait . for. It is something, that if we have the ...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE SATURDAY, SFPTEMBER 18, 1S75. FIRE PROTECTION. By a reference to our report of the Village. Ever since Its establishment the TitiBbNE has labored earnestly in favor of this sub ject. Although it Is probable that with the proper repairs and care, the hand en gine at present owned by the village tfluld be made of considerable sei'Vlce, it is just as evident irom the feelings of the members of the council and citizens tpon the subject, that it can never be made of any value here, beciuse no one has any faith in it.
