V\ edo not presume to questiou the grett advantages of the route; but the conceit is a little too fanciful and poetical for the age. The Buffalo went aftergrass, the Indian i.fter Buffalo. the daily dispatch New Oriiahs Firk Dr.rARTMF.HT.—The members of this organization celebrated their fifteenth anniversary on the 4th instant, with a parade, an oration, and various festive entertainments. The procession was a gorgeous one, and embraced twenty-one pieces of apparatus, and 1,'J50 men. The oration was de ivered by Wm. H. Hunt, Esq., and was a most eloquent production. The orator seemed fully to appreciate the faithful and courageous services of firemen, as the following excerpt will show : "The soldier goes forth to battle for glory or for gold. The intrepid mariner launches his adventurousbark upon the waters, and sees that a just reward will crown his hardy enterprise. Men woo not danger merely for iuelf; while the valor of avarice is lightly to be valued. But the Fireman forgets interest in the promution of the general good. He leaps amidst a thousand thickest dangers, and asks not for laurels, while he spurns reward. Let the soun 1 of the alarm bell come upon his e...

THE DAILY DISPATCH MIKE WALSH. Mike Wash in an original, and no mistake. Supporting, in the New York Assembly, the bill ror the erection of a Gubernatorial Mansion, at Albany, he expressed the hope that there would be no pea-nut economy displayed here. The office of Governor of thiJ great State was next in importance to that of President of the United States. The Governor entertained distinguished strangers from abroad, as well as ot'ier eminent personages of our country—and foreigners derived their first impressions of this nation, as much from they saw here, and of our Executive establish ment, as thev did from a visit to the President of the Unite'd States. Ten thousand a year and a magnificeut dwelling would not be more than was suitable to the dignity and importance of the office of the Chief Magistrate of This great State. Illusions had been made to the contingency that a person in the humbler walks of lite might be elevated to this distinguished office. Grant it. The more imp...
