John Taylor left this week for a ten-day emergency leave at his home in Bedford Massachusetts due to serious illness of his father. Lt Clinton Thompson joined our company. A recent transfer from Fort Knox Kentucky he will act as platoon leader. Pvt Max Sanchcz took an early leave in his army life as he was suddenly called home to appear as a witness in a trial. PFC David Harris successfully completed the Track Vehicle Mech­ anic course at the NCO Academy. SFC Jack Pierce reported the eleventh of this month for Infantry OCS at Fort Benning Ga. Sgt John Addison and Cpl James Pearce have taken another step in their Army careers. They are enjoying 30 days reenlistment lea­ ves. VoJ. 1 No. 21 Stays At NFH New Commander Of 100th Tank Named (NFH-PIO) —The 100th Tank Bn. under the command of Lt. Col. Merle L. Goodrich will be the only 1st AD military unit stationed at North Fort Hood during the sum­ mer months when the present Re serve Command area will be de­ voted to training National Guard and Organized Reserve groups. The mission of the 100th Tank Col. Goodrich said is to provide logistical support for civilian units during their summer encampment. Colonel Goodrich assumed com­ mand of the Battalion last Thurs- day. Maj. Gen. L. L. Dean com­ manding general 1st AD announc­ ed the appointment of the former executive officer of Reserve Com­ mand to succeed Lt. Col. Warren M. If Page Two For Soldiers Post Adjutant Opens Reference Library After several weeks of remodel- ing and restocking wi$h all types of official government publica- tions the Post Publications Ref­ erence Library was reopened Mon­ day Capt. James Clark Post ad­ jutant revealed. The library which is a section of the Post adjutant's operations -is located in toe upstairs east wing of Post Headquarters building nine. In the library is a complete stock of all reference training ad­ ministration and supply publica­ tions published by the Army or the Department of Defense. The library is open to all mili­ tary personnel and a stalf of two librarians is on hand to aid persons in checking reference material. .Thursday May 28 1953 Ten thrill-packed boxing mat­ ches were staged by Division Spe­ cial Services Sunday evening at the 'punch palace" located at Hqs. Ave and 42nd St. Twenty fighters took part in the nights activity and before the night was over the fans had seen four KO's three TKO's and three decisions. For those that have been follow­ ing boxing this year it seemed like the best show of the year as from the time the first two fighters step­ ped into the ring until the last bout the crowd saw the kind of action they had come to see. Not only did they see amateur boxing but they were also treated to a professional exhibition bout. Albert Broaster a member of the 81st Rccon finally got his chance to enter the ring as a fight­ er when he was matched against Randall Starkey of the 4th Tank in the nights pro-fight.
