An adequate supply of good water is an absolute necessity to any town which desires to progress beyond the hamlet stage, and the advan tages are too obvious—especially at this season of the year—to re quire enumerating. The only de batable point about the question is whether the scheme can be handled without imposing too great a burden upon the ratepayers. The Progress Association has obtained preliminary estimates of a scheme involving an expenditure of £3600. They are prepared by a competent engineer, and, as the country through which the channel wiil pass presents no great difficulties, there should not be much disparity between the estimates and the actual cost. ...
