TERIP TERIP Residents of Terip, Ruffy and Gobur tendered Mr. Cliff Creighton an even ing in the RlufTy Hall on 26th August., as a gesture of appreciation for the splendid manner in which he carried out his duties as mailman. During the evening Mr. Creighton was pre sented with a case of cutlery and a smoker's stand, as a token of the high esteem in which he was held by all. The speakers, Cr. Rowan, Messrs. Kennett, C. Cummings and J. Canty, all spoke of the generous and oblig ing way in which the guest operated the joint carrying and mail service. the good wishes of all present were extended to him on his retirement from this work. DEATHI OF MRS, ALICE CIHRIS TINA MIJLIOY. The death occurred at Alexandra Hospital on Monday last of Mrs. Alice Christina Milroy, at the age of 78 years. T'he late Mrs. Milroy was a very old and highly respected resident ,, tile Alexandra district, having been Iuln at Johnson's Creek, on the road aiown to older residents as Bell Vue. As a ouung woman she married the late Mr. Alexander Milroy, who pre deceased her in 1929. The deceased possessed a likeable disposition and a kindly nature. She could truly be idescribed as a "grand old lady." A lamily of [our sons and one daughter are left to mourn the loss uo a devoted mother. The late Mrs. Aliloy's father built the Belle Vue HIotcl. Alexandra C.W.A. The August meeting held last Wednesday was well attended, and members were told of Life at the Portsea Camp by Mrs. J. D. Walker, of Koriella. Members were most interested to hear of the splendid dental and medical attention given to the children by leading doctors and dentists. The routine of the camp also being. most beneficial to the children.. This Camp is some thing outstanding, in child treat ment and its further success and expansion assured. The daffodil and hyacinth blooms were called in for compe tition and two beautifil daffodils grown by Mrs. Les Nicholas were outstanding, and the loyely blue hyacinth grown by Mrs. R. Death of Mrs. M. A. Battersby. Quite a gloom was cast over the district when itbecame known that Mrs. Mabel Ada Battersby, wife of Mr. William Batterby, had passed away at the Dande nong Hospital on Sunday night last. The funeral took place at the Dandenong cemetery on 'luesday last. The 'late Mrs Battersby was born at Alexandra, and lived here practically all her life. Prior to her marriage she was Miss Mabel Hartley. She was liked by all who knew her: During her resi dence here she was an ardent and enthusiastic worker for the Alexandra Hospital, School Mo thers' Club and the Methodist Church. She possessed a cheer ful disposition and a kindly na ture, and a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mr. and Mrs. Battersby left Alex andra about 18'months ago to re side at Ferntree Gully.

Armored Unit Investigations regarding the establishment of an Armored Unit in Alexandra, were made on Wednesday. Colonel Fogarty and Major Coleman were the in vestigating officers. Diggers' Golf DOy. Big doings at the Alexandra golf links on Saturday, September 17-the local diggers' day. An interesting and diverting program has been drawn up, with good prizes for the events. The finish is at the nineteenth hole! Play will begin at 1 p.m., and after noon tea will be provided by the ladies' auxiliary.
