CORRESPONDENCE. A PUBLIC NUISANCE. (TO THE EDITOR.) [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 18 October 1890

CORRESPONDENCE. A riTBXIC SfUKSAIfCE. (TO THE EDITOR,) - . Sin,— Would you allow mo, through tho agency of your useful. journal, to urge upon the proper authorities the necessity of giving their earliest attention to the very insanitary condition of ' nitairs, that exist under tho wharf in tho immediato vicinity of the shipping ngents' pfllces. As the weather was nvtrille wnrm,to-ilay the nuisance was very noticeable, an bVetremely unpleasant odour saluting tlie olfactory nerves of thoso em X-loycd discharging the V.D.L, Co.'s trucks. If something is not done to prevent n con tinuance of tho offence the neighbourhood of, or approach, to the brcakwnter will not; bo a pleasant resort for visitors when the warm weather comes. I would suggest to tho authorities that tho nuisance might bo abated by tho erection of a ' public conveni-' once' in the locality. Yours, etc.', ' I , AV.B. JlAKBPIELD. ? Burnie, October 17. . -

LONDON FINANCIAL CRISIS. COLONIAL STOCKS AFFECTED. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 18 October 1890

LONDON FINANCIAL CRISIS. COLONIAL STOCKS AFFECTED.   Owing to the rumour that several large     houses are seriously affected in financial matters, great excitement prevails, the London Stock Exchange being also in a very excited state. Colonial stocks are unsale-   able but are nominally unchanged in prices. It is urged by the brokers that no more   loans be floated by the colonies for some   time, but instead of floating loans the colonies should issue Treasury bills, to give the market time to be cleared of colonial stocks.
