The new year has come with the most splendid weather, and to the colonists as a whole, it has been one of the most enjoyable seasons that could be wished. During the whole of the holiday time t'.e pleasure seekers were with out number. But while all was fun and frolic on the land, a melancholy incident has occurred in the wreck of the well-known passenger vessel Sussex, of Messrs. Money Wigram's line. This fine vessel, with a cargo estimated at £41,000 value, unfor tunately was run ashore on the breakers off the Barwon Heads, on the 1st ult, and to make it the more sad, a boat with six men and the 3rd mate, a Mr, O 'Flaherty, all of whom were drowned, with the ex- i ception of one man, while en- j deavouring to make their way on shore at Queenscliffe, the boat being upset, and the crew dashed among the breakers. I wiil now state the circumstances of the case : — My brother took my team and horses to Balrar-ald, wlrere he lost the horse in question, and wrote informing me. I saw the horse near the punt a few days ago, and naturally took my own property.
