WHYTE STREET PATHS To the Editor. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 19 January 1914

WHYTE STREET PATHS To the Editor. Sir,—In reading yonr report of the ' last meeting of the Wannon Shire Couucil, and in particular a discussion under " Footpath Exemption," I noticed that- Or. Riddoch, asking if the council could compel a property owner to pay his share of the cost, >vas answered in the affirmative. I believe -that' Gi-. Riddocli( intended his question to be as follows : Could the council compel :i property-owner, who had put down asphalt at j his own cost and with permission, ! to pay half the cost of now grano- ■ lytliic pavement, if the council rooted up the asphalt ? I am sure : Or. Riddoch is quite aware that the council can and does compel all ■ property-owners to pay half the cost : of path improvements. Although Or. Riddoch's question was answered in ; the affirmative, I question the ; opiuion that, under the circumstances here spoken of, the couucil could enforce payment. To he consistent, Cr. Dolman, in his motion, should have moved that both Messrs. Le...

VICTORIA'S WHEAT YIELD RAISING THR AVERAGE. j Victorian .farmers tire serenely, can - vtemplating tlic prospect' bf a r&ord harvest. ll is generally estimated that the total yield this season will exeed 3-1.000,000 bushels, and that, in the aggregate, if'not per acre, it will surpass all previous figures. This in itself is a gratifying result, bearing in mind the strange vagaries of the season hut the outcome would have been far from satisfactory hail not rain come to the relief of the crops in the very nick of time. Those who view with com placency the net results of the year's operations should not, however, over loo!; the fact that, this Aggregate might easily have been largely increased by the adoption of more thorough methods of cultivation, and that-, also, individual returns might have been greater. An illustration of the ext raordinarily high vieUls that, are possible in Vic toria, even ill a season such as the past, co'.nes from Nihil. 1m\> e many centres instanc...
