Local Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Camden News — 26 July 1895

Local ITcites Mr. F. R. Cowper, Solicitor, can he con aulted professionally at his Camden Office t wry Saturday. — Advt. A letter on the ''Be-union of', the Churches,'*' signed ' A Catholic,' has been unavoidably kept back, as all our available epaoe has been required for matter of a political character during the past fortnight. The letter is now under consideration, and i if not deemed unsuitable it will be published next week. The tibual fortnightly meeting of the Oatnden Municipal Council lapsed for want of a quorum on Wednesday night. It wa8 hardly expected that there would be a meeting, as nearly all the Aldermen were active workers in the election contest. The meeting will be held on Wednesday next. To ehow how careful a newspaper man ' ' has to be, we might mention an incident ?which occurred last Tuesday evening, During *he high wind which prevailed on that evening a spark was blown from a aeighboring chimney on to the shingle roof of the Roman Ca'holic School. Not only does the subject which I aui about to mention affect the aspirations and commercial well-beiug of ourselves, but, what is of vastly greater import- . - ance, it touches the interests of those who have to come after us. Therefore,- I shall not be oyer apologetic to you in asking for space iu your col- 1 t umi)8 tb ventilate a matter which is 0118 of indi- „ vidual interest, and which demands immediate and ' concerted action from all of us. The matter which I refer to is the rapidly approaching extinction of t\ / our indigenous fishes. Here, in Burragdrang, some. » 'j few years a...

THE ELECmm. MR. JOHN1 ItIDD DEFEATE D. ? A Cl,OSJi CONTEST. v MAJORITY 01T 21 FOR MR. B0LL. , ? The general election of 18^5 is. now numbered among the things .that were. The result has proved a great freetrade' vic tory, and Sir, George fteid has been sent back to the House with even a stronger following than he secured at the general election twelve months ago.- The list of re turns, provi'los several surprises,- not the least among which was the defeat of Mr. John Kidd for this constituency. A few days ago there, was scarcely onef of the Bu'U party who would hate predicted afl absolute win, Many were sanguine, but were some what reticent when asked for a straight-out opinion. The Kidd party were confident, but still they were anxious, and were f wily imhusfd with the magnitude of the ta.sk they had to accomolir,h. The v worked xealouslVi yet quietly aud unostentatiously^ and the other side, whilst a little more demonstrative, were not quite so; confident The proceed ings were ver...
