SYDNEY. Tuesday, January 13. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Express and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser — 29 January 1859

SYDNEY. RaoM! OUli OWN COlntESPONDENT.) ----I--0- Tuesday, January 13. Since the withdurawal by Mr. Donaldson of his want of confidence motion on Tuesdaylost,. the Assembly has made considerable progress with the estimates. For to-night, however, Mr. Donaldson has on the paper a motion of similar effect, and it is possible that the honorable msmbe r previous to his departure for England would like to take a farewell review of Mr. Cowper's policy. The last week has been barren in events of interest. The Salsette brought but a small instalment of news and a limited mail. Whether the Oneida has arrived at Melbourne or not must remain doubtful until the elec tric telegraph is repaired. At present, from seme accident or other, all communication is cut off. A similar misfortune preceeded the arrival of the last mail. Until the new con tract comes into operation we must put up with vexatious delays, grin, and hear them. From the fancy bazaar that was held during the first three ldays of th...

LANG'S CROSSING PLACE. MURRUMBIDGEE RIVER 22nd January, 1859. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Express and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser — 29 January 1859

LANG'S CROSSING PLACE. MURRUMBIDGEE RIVER. ..[nROM A CORRESPron ENT.J . 22nd January, 1869. Last Mondnay a hailstorm of unusual seve rity visited this locality; the hail came down so fast and in such large pieces, that all ani mals and birds quickly sought shelter from its effects. The wind at the same time blew a perfect hurricane and caused much destruc tion of timber; it came so suddenly and with such tremnendous violence that an almost clean pathway was cleared before it; in fact it was of a very similar nature to a tornado or to a hurricane, puch as is seenin the West Indies. The ground was at one time covered with small lumps of ice, and where there was a drift, these pieces of ice or hail-stones lay in large heaps. Children who here never see snow and ice very rarely, were quite delighted at the stonrm, and picked up and eat the hail stones greedily, just as if they had been the best almond comfits. MIr. John Kelly, J.P., sat at BDalranald last Saturday and disposed of some c...

TO OUR FPUBSOctIBERS AND FRIENDS. But while determined, so far as our abili ties and resources, can secure such an object, that in the interest and variety of its contents, its typographical merit, and its literary character, this journal shall not be surpassed by any of oar provincial contemporaries, we would respectfully, but earnestly remind our patrons that for the efficient carrying out of such designs, we are entirely dependent upon the prompt and punc tinl receipt of their subscriptions. The revenue of a newspaper is made up of such a number of small sulms derived from so many different quarters, that while personal application for payment is a pure impossibility, and even the postage of accounts in every individual instance involves such a considerable addition to o...
