Oakieigh State School. ELECTION OF SCHOOL COIMMITTEE. The triennial election of the School Committee was held on Wednesday evening at the school. Mr J. W. Elsbury (head teacher) presided and there were about 30 parents present. Nine candidates were nominated, and a ballot taken resulted in the election of Messrs Harston, Rawlings, F. Berry, J. Orr, Joyce, Pamhner and Knight. The Chairmin stated that ten ders had been called for the erec tion of an up-to-date infants' build ing, at an estimated cost of ?3800, and that it would be an exact re plica of a similar buildiug at Kew. A hearty vote of thanks was ac corded to the retiring commlittee on the motion of the Mayor (Cr Knight), seconded by Mr Shilling law, and Messrs Orr and Rawlings responded, detailing the hard work put in by the committee and its chairman (MAr Harston) to se cure the infants' building.

A letter was received from Cr Wesiley, resigning the office of vice-president, owing to want of time to attend; accepted with regret and Messrs Synythe, and Garn ham nominated to fill the vacancy. Robberies in Oakleigh. Early on Tuesday morning Cr Henry paid his accustomed visit to the stable to see how his horses fared and missed a cream colored pony. He searched all over the Borough, but without success, and returning noticed that a saddle and bridle was also gone. Knowing that the pony, however smart it might be, could not put these ac coutrements on and go off, he con cluded that it had been stolen. He telephoned to various police sta tions and in the afternoon was in formed by the City police that a horse answering the description of the stolen steed had that morning been purchased in Victoria MIar ket by -a gardener named Hilde brandt, living at Bayswater, from an unknown man for £4, a cheque for that amount being given in payment. Suspecting that the horse was stolen, he gave informa tion to the police and also stopped payment of the cheque.
