CROOKED RIVER.             (from our own Correspondent.)   I intended to have sent you a report of our river and creek workings last week, but through some accident my letter was unfor- tunately left behind.   The miners are now working on steadily,   and the majority are making remunerative wages, others, I am sorry to say, are not so successful, and I attribute this, in a great measure, to their not having sufficient capital to put on the machinery necessary for river workings. A number of our miners are much disap pointed that as yet no new payable gold-field have been found in the vicinity. This I also attribute to the fact that the means of those who have undertaken these prospecting trips have been inadequate to follow out the de- sired object.
