At the monthly meeting of the Shire Council last week Mr A. J. Stephens, of Majorca, was ap- pointed Shire secretary and rate collector. Mr Stephens commences his duties on 1st April. Now that approval has been given to the Ouyen Post-office being raised to official status no effort should he spared to bring about the erection of a suitable buildiing. The Council have made a good move in approaching Mr Sampson with the request to use his influence in the matter. Mr A. E. V. Richardson (Agri- cutiural Superintendent) will visit this Shire next week. A full pro- gramme appears on another page. A meeting of the Ouyen A. & P. Society to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon at 3 o'clock to report on show grounds. A full attendance is desired. The Walpeup Easter Carnival will take place this year on Wed- nesday, 25th March, on Mr P. FARMER KILLED. Mr Maurice Frowd, farler of Five Mile Creek, was killed this morning. He had loaded a waggon with wood, and had apparently been doing something with an axe to the undercarriage, when the horses moved, and he was dis covered lying under one of the wheels, with the whole weight of the load on his l ft side. He had been in the position for probably two hours. Death must have been instantaneous.
