SPRING CREEK. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Times — 24 July 1868

SPRING C REEK.     -----o----- (FROM A SPECIAL REPORTER.) Since my last I have to report that a new reef was struck yesterday, opposite Healey's store, and very fair prospects obtained, about a quarter of a pennyweight of gold washed to the tin dish, besides several specimens. The parties deserve great credit, having driven about fifteen feet in an abandoned shaft. The contractors in the Norfolk pros- pecting claim are sinking a new shaft to the eastward and expect to cut the lode or vein at about fifty feet. Mr H. Hude, a dis- interested miner, washed a splendid prospect from the Strangers' prospecting claim yield- ing about 1 dwt of fine gold and some very rich specimens, taken from a new shaft. The dispute in Nos. 1 2, 3, and 4, block claims,   on the Britannia, has caused a great deal of excitement here. Shares on the Durham line have been disposed of. We are getting quite a township on Spring Creek; several places of business are in course...
