CAPSICUM HOUSE; FOR VOUXG LADIES. A Letter from India—A Turtte.-~t\. * Miss Grif fin came down Ihc walk, Mr. Corks appeared in the back ground. His face seemed we thought, ripe wiih satisfaction. His eyes—his lover's eyes—drooped tenderly upon Mi^s Griffin, and she swept along the path. As she advanced upon the holly-bush that screened us, we sauntered round it, as though lackadaisically strolling from another walk. " I come to seek you," said .Miss Griffin, all of a glow. " Ladies,"—and she turned lo her pupils suddenly huddled together, Fluke, however standing out from the crowd in very bold relief—"Ladies to your litsks. In five minutes I shall bo prepared to examine the Turlle-Soup class." " If it's real turtle, ma'am," said Fluke, " I'm not yet in it. You know, when you examined me, I hadn't got beyond calf's bead." Front BUckwood'8 Mngnziuc TRANCE-SLEEP. The deepest grade of tranccslccp extinguishes all llic ordinary signs of animation. It forms the condition in whicli many arc buried alive. It is the so-called vampire stale in the fampirc superstition. TJic middle giude presents the appcurancc of profound unconsciousness; but a gentle breathing and the circulation arc distinguishable. In the lightest degree of Irance-clcep, the person can sustain itself sitting*; the pupils nrc iti the came stole as above, or natural; the apparent unconnioutness profound. DROWNING. The following" is from a letter by Admir.il Beaufort to Dr. Wollaslon, in the Memoirs of Sir John Car-row, just published in London: "Many years ago, when I was a youngster on board one of his Majesty's ships, in Portsmouth harbor, after sculling- about in a very small boat, 1 was endeavoring to fasten her alongside the ship 10 one of the scutlle-rings; in foolish eagerness I stepped upon lite gunwale, the boat of course upset, and I fell into the water, nnd not knowing how to swim, all my efforts to lay hold either of the boat or of Ihc floating sculls were fruitless.
